Mitchell was 89 and contracted pneumonia. He suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which limited his appearances on emAMC/em in the last two years. His last appearance was on the emAll My Children/em 40th Anniversary Show on January 5./p pMitchell played the outspoken, manipulative Palmer and was an imposing presence with his chiseled features, haughty expression, and rich speaking voice. Palmer is the role that made him famous, but before emAMC/em, Mitchell was a successful dancer who appeared on Broadway and in films.
